Replogle still out; Johnson, Freeland return to practice

Senior linebacker Tyler Replogle was still out of Wednesday’s practice with a concussion suffered in Saturday’s game against Western Kentucky. He was listed as questionable on Tuesday’s injury report.

Indiana coach Bill Lynch said he was uncertain of what Replogle would have to go through to be cleared.

“I leave that up to the medical staff,” Lynch said. “I’ve got so much faith in Dr. (Andy) Hipskind down through Brian Lund and all, and so I stay out of that. They come in and give us a report every morning of who is going to practice that day. After practice tomorrow, we’ll have a pretty good idea of where we see it for Saturday.”

If Replogle doesn’t play, the Hoosiers have a few options to fill his position. Junior Brandon McGhee, a Jeffersonville native, has been the backup strongside linebacker. Redshirt freshman Griffen Dahlstrom has also seen some time there.

“For us, next guy’s gotta step up and play,” Lynch said. “If you have to play without a captain and a starter and a guy that’s played as much as (he has) it’s certainly going to affect your team. But that’s why they all practice, and I mean that sincerely. I think there’s nobody in America who plays their 2’s and 3’s more than we do. That’s by design. You just know through the course of a 12-game season, somebody’s going to go down. It may be for the game or it may be during the game. I want to make sure that the next guy who goes in is comfortable and the other guys are comfortable with him in there.”

The other two players listed as questionable on Tuesday’s injury report practiced on Wednesday. Defensive end Darius Johnson (hamstring) and kicker Nick Freeland (hip) both missed over a week but returned to practice Wednesday.

  1. let Replogle sit this one out. The new findings on concussions without proper rest are mind blowing. Heal up and we can use you vs Mich!
