It’s Indiana, from Chicago

Here’s a taste of what we got from Big Ten Media Day in Chicago. First, some basic news.

Junior guard Verdell Jones attended Media Day in a walking boot, but said he’s just day to day and expects to be fine for the season opener on Nov. 12 against Florida Gulf Coast. Tom Crean said sophomore forward Derek Elston has also missed time for a number of injuries. One of those was an ankle, which kept him out of a practice about a week ago. Sophomore guard Maurice Creek is still taking a day off practice every few days. It’s no longer one on, one off, but he has days that he does strictly rehabilitation instead of on-court workouts. Crean said they don’t take it all that easy on him when he does practice.

Michigan State was picked to finish first in the Big Ten, followed by Ohio State and Purdue. Michigan State guard Kalin Lucas was picked as the Preseason Player of the Year. Purdue’s JaJuan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore, Illinois’ Demetri McCamey and Wisconsin’s Jon Leuer joined him on the Preseason All-Big Ten First Team.

  1. Ha! When I first saw the photo above, I thought it was Tom Crean sitting next to … Bob Knight!
