Alaska-Anchorage at IU women

FINAL
Jori Davis leads IU with 16 points, Hope Elam adds 15 and Sasha Chaplin finishes with 13 rebounds as Indiana pulls away over the final few minutes. HOOSIERS 72, SEAWOLVES 49

SECOND HALF
7:57: A jumper in the lane for Andrea McGuirt and a McGuirt 3 in transition push the Indiana lead to 12. HOOSIERS 50, SEAWOLVES 38

11:58: Indiana started the half with a 10-0 run and now matches its largest lead on another Elam 3. But the bigger concern is Sasha Chaplin limping off with a leg injury just a few minutes ago. That’s something IU has seen too much of in her brief career so far. HOOSIERS 42, SEAWOLVES 33

15:42: Hope Elam hits just the second 3 of the game for Indiana to make the lead six, while Alaska has yet to score this half. HOOSIERS 34, SEAWOLVES 28

HALFTIME
Both teams end with a bit of an offensive flourish. Jori Davis with 12 points to lead Indiana in scoring, while Sasha Chaplin has hauled down nine rebounds. But rebounding as a whole has not been a strong suit for the Hoosiers, who were outrebounded 24-18 and gave up 12 offensive rebounds. Indiana shot 29.6 percent to Alaska-Anchorage’s 32.2 percent. SEAWOLVES 28, HOOSIERS 27

FIRST HALF
3:59: Indiana has forced 11 turnovers but hasn’t been able to parlay those into easy points at all. And the offense continues to struggle, firing at a 28.6 percent clip. HOOSIERS 16, SEAWOLVES 16

7:58: The Indiana offense hasn’t exactly roared to life, but the Hoosiers have forced back-to-back shot clock violations. It’s pretty obvious this team can play defense, but putting the biscuit in the basket could be problematic. HOOSIERS 14, SEAWOLVES 11

14:25: At the first break, Indiana has the lead — barely. The IU defense has been good by and large, just a couple 3s knocked down, while Indiana has been cold. Aulani Sinclair with a 3, and bucket each for Andrea McGuirt and Sasha Chaplin. HOOSIERS 7, SEAWOLVES 6

PREGAME
We’re almost ready for the Indiana women’s basketball exhibition opener tonight against the Division II Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves. I’ll have updates on how the Hoosiers look throughout the evening.
