Benson to train with national team

Indiana University announced today that volleyball All-American Ashley Benson, a Bloomington North grad and daughter of former basketball great Kent Benson, has been invited to spend the next three months training with the USA Women’s Volleyball National team coaching staff. That staff includes assistant coach Karch Kiraly of Olympic and beach volleyball fame.

Training begins Jan. 17 and this puts Benson in position to be in the mix for the national team with the next Olympics coming up in 2012 in London.

After taking off the spring semester to train, she will return to Bloomington for summer classes before completing her degree during the fall semester. She could continue working with the national team after that or begin a professional career overseas.
