Iowa at IU women

Senior Day ceremony upcoming, but Iowa spoils the party with a victory, shooting 55.8 percent from the field and 9-of-16 on 3-pointers. The Hawkeyes are the fourth team in the last seven games to shoot 50 percent or better from beyond the arc against the Hoosiers. Jaime Printy with 28 points to lead Iowa and Kachine Alexander 27 points and 10 rebounds.

Jori Davis closes out her home career with 28 points, eight assists and eight rebounds. Hope Elam added 14 points, Whitney Lindsay and Alisha Goodwin 13 apiece in the losing effort. HAWKEYES 93, HOOSIERS 79

2:20: Only suspense may be if Jori Davis can get two rebounds and two assists for a triple double. HAWKEYES 89, HOOSIERS 77

7:57: Indiana not catching any breaks from the officials, but the Hoosiers aren’t stopping anybody either as Iowa is now shooting 57.5 percent for the game. Jori Davis has 19 points and six assists, but even she can’t keep pace with the Iowa offense. HAWKEYES 71, HOOSIERS 58

11:03: IU rallied from down 12 to within 3 behind Jori Davis, but Iowa has an answer, not coincidentally as Davis went back to the bench for a break with her three fouls. HAWKEYES 59, HOOSIERS 50

16:16: Jori Davis has three fouls and Iowa led by as many as 12 before an Andrea McGuirt layup moments ago. Foul trouble has taken the edge off the IU defense. HAWKEYES 49, HOOSIERS 39

Indiana bounces back within one twice, but Kamille Wahlin’s late 3 gives Iowa the four-point halftime cushion. Jori Davis with 9 points, 4 assists, three rebounds and two fouls in her final first half at Assembly Hall. Fellow senior Hope Elam also with nine points. Whitney Lindsay has 7 points and three fouls. Aulani Sinclair also with three fouls.

Hoosier shot 55.6 percent from the field but just 2-of-10 from 3. Hawkeyes were 50 percent from the field, 4-of-7 from 3 and 12-of-16 on free throws. Indiana was just 2-of-3 from the line. HAWKEYES 38, HOOSIERS 34

3:59: The Indiana bench not able to uphold the strong start as Iowa uses a 12-0 run to take its biggest lead of the game. HAWKEYES 31, HOOSIERS 24

7:59: Alisha Goodwin just became the first non-senior to score with a three-point play, but Jori Davis and Simone Deloach now have two fouls apiece as Iowa just keeps attacking the paint. HOOSIERS 22, HAWKEYES 18

10:32: Four seniors and a freshman working so far for Indiana, which has yet to sub. Simone Deloach with four rebounds and all the points by the seniors. HOOSIERS 18, HAWKEYES 12

14:38: The start of this game looked like the makings of a disaster as Indiana turned it over on the first four possession and five of the first seven. But perfect shooting has helped overcome that as the Hoosiers are 5-of-5 from the field, including 2-of-2 from 3. HOOSIERS 12, HAWKEYES 8

Final game of the regular season today at Assembly Hall, nationally televised on the Big Ten Network to boot. It’s Senior Day for the Hoosier quartet of Jori Davis, Hope Elam, Whitney Lindsay and Andrea McGuirt, so you know IU wants to win for the seniors. Depending on the results of other games, Iowa could finish tied for second in the Big Ten with a win, so this is a big game for Big Ten Tournament seeding, and NCAA Tournament seeding for that matter. The Hawkeyes won the earlier meeting in Iowa City, 71-51, in January.

  1. Has it been 6 years or 5? I think only 5 but could be wrong. I suspect she’ll be back for one more year at least, but there are no indications they’ll be any better next year. In fact, they could be a heck of a lot worse.
