Report: Jalen Coleman receives offer from IU

Indianapolis Star preps writer Kyle Neddenriep reported Friday that Jalen Coleman, a freshman point guard at Cathedral, has received a scholarship offer from Indiana.

Coleman, a member of the Class of 2015, has not played a high school game yet, but he is playing up this summer in travel basketball with the Eric Gordon All-Stars 15 and under team.

UPDATE: 6:08 p.m. : Brian Keeton, the head coach of the Eric Gordon 15 and Under team, confirmed that Coleman has received an offer from IU. Though he said that’s obviously a heady proposition for an incoming high school freshman, he said Coleman has the sort of personality that will allow him to handle it.

“My favorite attribute about him is that he’s one of the most coachable players I’ve ever gotten to coach,” Keeton, a former volunteer assistant at Cathedral who is now working as an assistant at Ben Davis, said. “He’s a great person on and off the floor.”

And most likely, Keeton thinks Coleman will receive a lot more offers.

“I think he’s the best incoming freshman in the state of Indiana,” Keeton said. “He’s very strong with the ball. He has the ability to create his own shot. He shoots very well, and he’s consistent with it. A lot of kids at that age are not consistent. He is. He will defend, and his better years are ahead of him. I think the sky’s the limit for him.”

  1. I know it is hard to see the future but I love how Crean is in the game at day one. Who knows what the class of 2015 will look like but I can say that the best in IN will have been in contact with the best basketball program since day one.
Keep it up Crean and team!
