Note from IU: Kenny Mullen also played in opener

Indiana apparently played not nine but 10 true freshmen in Saturday’s game. According to a note from an IU spokesman, Kenny Mullen, a cornerback from Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, also saw action.

Mullen was one of five members of the secondary to see the field along with fellow cornerbacks Michael Hunter and Nick Stoner and safeties Mark Murphy and Forisse Hardin. On offense, running back D’Angelo Roberts and wide receivers Jay McCants, Cody Latimer and Shane Wynn also saw action. Long snapper Matt Dooley made it 10.

There is still a chance that more could get in. Quarterback Tre Roberson is likely to take snaps at some point. There are four offensive linemen (Gregory Lewis, Bernard Taylor, David Kaminski, Peyton Eckert) who could get playing time should starters falter or suffer injury. Linebackers Zack Shaw, Kyle Kennedy and Mike Replogle are also possibilities, though it seems more likely that they will redshirt.
