IU women exhibition game

FINAL
That was every bit the mismatch you think it was. All over and the Hoosiers win by 53. HOOSIERS 92, QUEEN BEES 39

SECOND HALF
3:56: Oh yeah, there was a second half. Indiana scored the first seven points, dominated the glass and just about every other category you can think of. Strong debut for the newcomers, and a big game from senior Danilsa Andujar, who has a double-double. HOOSIERS 81, QUEEN BEES 39

HALFTIME
We’ve reached the break here at Assembly Hall. If this was a boxing match, the referee would step in. St. Ambrose is simply no match for IU’s depth, size and athleticism. Still, nice to see lots of players in the game and a lot making contributions. That includes most notably freshman Quaneisha McCurty, who shares game-high scoring honors with JUCO transfer Jasmine McGhee with 8 points. McCurty also has 6 rebounds including a nifty pirouette for a reverse layup. Danilsa Andujar leads the way on the glass with 7 rebounds. All told, 13 Hoosiers have seen the floor with 10 of those getting in the scoring column. IU not shooting all that well at 34.1 percent, but dominating the glass, 30-16, including 19 offensive rebounds. Indiana has also forced 19 turnovers while committing just four. HOOSIERS 42, QUEEN BEES 16

FIRST HALF
7:22: Indiana basically making line changes every few minutes, an impressive thing in its own right. Lead continues to grow. HOOSIERS 24, QUEEN BEES 6

11:53: Already 10 Hoosiers have seen action in this one. IU started to assert its superior size and quickness, including a fastbreak follow by 6-6 freshman Quaneisha McCurty, who ran the floor beautifully. HOOSIERS 14, QUEEN BEES 6

15:50: Indiana out of the gate quickly, going up 5-0 and forcing three turnovers on St. Ambrose’s first three possessions. But things have stalled since. Linda Rubene hit a 3 for the first Hoosier basket, and Georgie Jones added two free throws. HOOSIERS 5, QUEEN BEES 2

PREGAME
I’m at Assembly Hall for the first exhibiton game of the 2011-12 season for the Indiana women’s basketball team. A lot of unknowns with this team this year, so this should be a fun game to see what kind of potential exists. Five newcomers — three freshmen and two junior college transfers — will make their Hoosier debuts. I’ll let you know how it’s going here and on Twitter.
