IU women ink pair for 2012

The Indiana women’s basketball team officially announced the signing of two players for the recruiting class of 2012 Thursday.

One is Brittany Webb, a 5-foot-4 point guard from Heritage Christian in Indianapolis, and the other is Haley Videckis, a 6-foot wing from Bartlett, Ill.

Webb, who averaged 14.7 points, 3.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game last season, committed to the Hoosiers in April. She is rated as a two-star recruit and ranked the No. 123 point guard in the nation by ESPN HoopGurlz.

“I would love to schedule the 122 point guards that are ahead of this competitive Hoosier,” IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack said in a news release. “I think that she would fare quite well. I love the fact that Brittany’s dream school is IU. She is a pure point guard who is tough as nails. I am so glad she will be a Hoosier, as she has been one her entire life.”

Videckis averaged 10.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game last year for a 28-2 Bartlett team that won a regional championship and led the team in 3-point field goals made connecting on 41 during her junior campaign. She becomes the third Division I player off that team with former teammates now at Wisconsin and San Jose State. Videckis is a two-time All-Upstate Eight Conference selection and a two-time Chicago Daily Herald All-Area pick. She chose IU over offers from Providence, Colgate and Yale according to the Daily Herald.

“Haley is a fantastic student-athlete who can absolutely shoot from long distance,” Legette-Jack said. “Her upside is immeasurable. I love our future with Haley as a part of it. I am so glad she will be a Hoosier.”

  1. How many more seasons does FLJ get to build the women’s team? She does not win much. She does not bring in top recruits or even highly ranked state players. Other coaches at IU have not been afforded as much time to turn things around. Why?

  2. Sam,
Coach Jack just got a contract extension, so she has a couple of years at least. With this team being as young as it is but by her own admission as talented as any she has had, this year and next would seem like the time to see progress. Can’t answer the why for sure but the past instability in the program plus some success in her first few years are factors.

  3. I wanted to put you the very small word to be able to say thanks again for these superb advice you’ve discussed above. It has been so strangely generous of people like you to present without restraint all that a number of us might have distributed for an ebook in making some profit on their own, notably now that you might well have tried it in the event you decided. These techniques as well worked to be a fantastic way to realize that other people online have a similar dream just as my own to understand significantly more in terms of this condition. I know there are a lot more fun sessions ahead for people who view your website.
