IU RecruitWatch: This weekend’s slate

The high school basketball season is upon us, and that means plenty of chances for you to watch or read about the future (or possible future) of Indiana basketball before it arrives in Bloomington.

Here’s a list of this weekend’s action, listed by recruit, with directions for those of you who want an in-person look:

Yogi Ferrell (Park Tudor): After a 3-0 start through tournament play, the Panthers open their normal slate this Friday at 4A Indianapolis Roncalli at 7:30 p.m. Directions to Roncalli from Bloomington are here.

Ron Patterson (Broad Ripple): First, a demolition of Muncie South, and now Patterson’s Rockets will take on Cathedral this Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. Directions to Cathedral are here.

Jeremy Hollowell (Lawrence Central): Hollowell and his 2-0 Lawrence Central team will be at home this Friday against Arsenal Tech and tip at 7:30 p.m. He’ll play against 2014 commit Trey Lyles in what should be an interesting matchup. Directions to Lawrence Central are here.

Hanner Mosquera-Perea (LaPorte La Lumiere): Perea and La Lumiere play in a big matchup this weekend with Oak Hill Academy on a neutral court in Marshall Co., Kentucky. I’m going to guess giving directions to this one will be fairly useless.

Peter Jurkin (UFCA, N.C.): Jurkin’s team is 2-2 right now, but has scored 100+ points in both of their wins. They take on Shining Light Academy (got to love these academy names!), at 7:00 pm in Greensboro, N.C. Again, directions likely useless.

Collin Hartman (Cathedral): Hartman and Cathedral will open their season with a matchup against fellow 2013 commit Devin Davis and Warren Central. The game tips at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Cathedral. Directions from Bloomington, here. It’s worth noting that Cathedral plays Davis’ team on Friday and Ron Patterson’s team on Saturday.

Devin Davis (Warren Central): See above. Both Davis and Hartman start their season tomorrow night.

James Blackmon Jr. (Bishop Luers): Blackmon’s team opens the season this Saturday at home against Mishawaka Marian at 7 p.m. Directions to Luers from Bloomington are here. That one is a bit far for those of you in Bloomington.

Trey Lyles (Arsenal Tech): Lyles’ first game was impressive, as he pulled down a monster double-double. And he followed it up with another double-double for good measure. This Friday, he’ll match up in one of the better commit-on-commit showdowns, as Tech heads to play Jeremy Hollowell’s Lawrence Central team for a 7:30 tip. Directions, again, are here.

2013, BeeJay Anya (Dematha Catholic, Md.): Anya’s team, one of the top 15 teams in the country (also Victor Oladipo’s former stomping grounds) opens the season Friday night at Gleneig Country Day.

2013, Derek Willis (Bullitt East, Ky.): The Chargers are 1-0, and will matchup with Bullitt Central this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at home. Directions, for those very committed, are here.

2013, Bo Zeigler (Detroit Community): Zeigler won’t tip until Monday when his Hurricanes open the season against Ford Academy at 4:30 p.m. It won’t be this weekend, but I’ll be up to see Zeigler at some point when I’m home for a weekend.

2014, Jaquan Lyle (Evansville Bosse): Lyle and Bosse don’t play this weekend after playing last weekend at Jeffersonville. They’ll tip off next at Princeton on Dec. 9.

2014 Trevon Bluiett (Park Tudor): Along with Yogi Ferrell, Blueitt will head to Roncalli this weekend for a 7:30 tip on Friday.

  1. I had a dream last night that I was driving in a traffic jam and yogi ferrell jumped out of a nearby car in a full packers uniform and helmet and started firing a gun at a giant inflatable dinosaur. It was all over the news and my dad who is a Kentucky fan started talking mad s*** about how IU was recruiting thugs.

Other than that, yeah I’m pretty excited for our recruits.
