Zeller earns sixth Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor

Indiana freshman forward Cody Zeller was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the sixth time Monday after scoring 22 points in Indiana’s win over Illinois on Thursday. The release from IU.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana freshman forward Cody Zeller has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for a sixth time this year after helping the Hoosiers to their 19th win of the season last week.

Zeller, who earned the same honor from the league for the weeks of Nov. 14, Nov. 21, Dec. 5, Dec. 19 and Jan. 9, led all players with 22 points, to go along with five rebounds, one assist, one blocked shot and one steal in an 84-71 win over Illinois in Bloomington on Thursday, Feb. 9. He sank 5-of-8 from the field and 12-of-14 from the free throw line to help give Indiana its second straight win and it’s seventh of the Big Ten season.

On the year, the Washington, Ind., native leads the Hoosiers with 15.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He ranks among the nation’s best and leads the Big Ten in shooting at 64.8 percent.

Zeller and the Hoosiers return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 15, when they play host to Northwestern in Assembly Hall at 6:30 p.m. ET. Wednesday’s game will air on the Big Ten Network and the IU Radio Network.
