Pitino says Indiana is back and he’s up for a series

Louisville coach Rick Pitino, whose team is also in Portland, Ore. as the No. 4 seed in the West Region, said that he told Indiana coach Tom Crean he’s ready to play the Hoosiers whenever they are ready, and that he believes they are.

“I said to Tom, whenever he’s ready and he gets back to where he wants to be, we’d love to play,” Pitino said. “It’s strictly his call. I’m sure he’s got enough tough games on his schedule that he may or may not want to do it. We certainly would love to do it. But his program’s back.”

Pitino said Indiana’s resurgence wasn’t surprising to him.

“I said to most of the Louisville media at the beginning of the year that they would be back this year,” Pitino said. “There was no question in my mind that they would be. I’m real happy for Tom and really happy for IU that they are back. They had to do it the old-fashioned way. They started with a decimated program. No players. And they did it the right way. They did it with fundamentals. They did it with proper recruiting. They did it with integrity. It’s back and it’s back for good.”

  1. He wont, it doesnt fit tom creans style to schedule anyone but easy bottom of the division 1 barrel.

  2. The headline read, “Alfred…” Geez, Alford is a name one would think wouldn’t be misspelled in the HT.

And IU plays the “easy bottom of division 1 barrel?” Not so. IU’s RPI was the 16th toughest schedule; the ‘Ville would be another top notch team for Crean to schedule and it will happen sooner rather than later.
