May Classic Player Evaluations: Collin Hartman

Recruiting Status: Indiana commitment, Class of 2013

AAU Team: Eric Gordon All-Stars 17U

Games/Stats: Seven points in a 74-70 loss to Martin’s Wolverines, four points in a 63-49 loss to Indiana Elite

Skinny: Hartman missed the last two weekends with a concussion and it took him sometime to work back into the flow. Plus, it’s not easy in general for a spot-up shooter to get the ball in AAU in general let alone on a team that has a lot of players who like to shoot the ball. That being said, Hartman can still shoot it really well. He also looks like he’s put some muscle on his string-bean physique, and that’s made him a better defender and rebounder. He’s handling the ball well in the open floor, though he’s not attacking the basket that much and trying to take it to the hole. He still passes the ball well, and seems comfortable handling the ball in the high post.

Even if Hartman becomes a shooting specialist, that’s still something Indiana will be in need of by 2013. Jordan Hulls and Matt Roth will both be gone by then. Jeremy Hollowell can certainly shoot it as can others in the 2012 class, but Austin Etherington would be the only other obvious spot-up shooter in the program.
