Beckwith advances to finals in 800 at Olympic Trials

Former Indiana runner Molly Beckwith reached the finals of the 800 meters at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials. She runs for a spot on the team Monday night. The release from IU sports info follows.

Beckwith Makes 800m Final at Trials

EUGENE, Ore. – Molly Beckwith won her semifinal in the women’s 800 to cement her spot in the finals and putting her one race away from a trip to the London Olympics.

Beckwith’s time of 2:00.57 won the first heat and was third overall in the semis. The 2010 IU grad will run in the final at 9:50 p.m. ET on Monday. A top three finish in the final would send her to London for the Olympics.

Kind Butler clocked a time of 45.87 for 15th in the semis of the 400 meters. Butler misses out on the finals but will run in the 200m prelims at 4:45 p.m. ET on Friday, June 29.

Danielle Carruthers ran 13.09 in the semifinals of the 100m hurdles, finishing 16th overall. She missed out on the finals. The 2003 Indiana graduate misses out on her first trip to the Olympics despite being one of the top hurdlers in the world over the past decade.

Darius King tied for 20th out of 24 jumpers in the prelims of the high jump. The sophomore cleared 2.10m (6-10.75).
