McBride switches commitment to IU women

Former Bowling Green commit Karlee McBride has become the fifth Indiana women’s basketball commitment for the 2013 recruiting class according to the Erie Times News, as well as ESPN HoopGurlz on Twitter.

McBride, the younger sister of Notre Dame’s Kayla McBride, had originally committed to then-Bowling Green coach Curt Miller and the Falcons last year. But after Miller took the Indiana job this past spring, McBride was interested in the Hoosiers and apparently made her decision official after an official visit two weeks ago.

The 5-foot-10 wing from Erie, Pa., is a three-star prospect according to HoopGurlz. She averaged 14 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists as a junior to be named to the all-state second team and is just 23 points away from 1,000 in her career. There could also be a domino effect as Lyndsay Leikem, a 6-1 forward from Arizona who decommitted from Mississippi, also recently visited IU and has been interacting with McBride on Twitter.

Other 2013 commits are 5-10 guard Alexis Gassion (Fairborn, OH), 5-5 PG Larryn Brooks (Richmond, Ky.), 5-9 PG Taylor Agler (Westerville, OH) and 6-3 post Jenn Anderson (Westfield).

  1. If McBride is half as good as her sister playing at Notre Dame, we are in for a treat!! Coach Miller’s tireless recruiting is exceptional. It is amazing the amount of recruits he has recieved verbals from considering his short time on the job. I am driving to Valpariso tonight to catch the Hoosiers in action, can’t wait for the Miller era to begin!! Go Hoosiers!!
