Journal Courier: Burke won’t back out of contracts to get another IU game on schedule

Mike Carmin of the Lafayette Journal-Courier spoke to Purdue athletic director Morgan Burke on Wednesday in Chicago after Indiana athletic director Fred Glass had broached the topic of a non-conference game between the two schools. Burke told Glass (and also Carmin) that Purdue’s non-conference schedule is in fact full and that he will not back out of any contracts to make a non-conference game between the two schools happen.

Glass told Carmin that he was not aware that Purdue’s schedule was full before speaking to Burke on Wednesday. The Big Ten announced Tuesday night that IU-Purdue would be one of the single plays on the 2013-14 schedule. The lone game will be in West Lafayette this season, and Glass said he was hopeful to convince the Boilermakers to play one game in Bloomington.

The Boilermakers, however, had already released a 13-game non-conference schedule.

  1. So Matt Painter will back out on his marriage contract, but won’t back out on contracts with the likes of Maryland Eastern Shore and Wayne State.

Not the first time the priorities have been wrong up in Stink Town!

  2. Did anyone read the article linked above about Purdue’s non-con schedule? I found this quote to be most interesting. While some argument can be made for 2 or 3 years ago I don’t think this is the case at this time.

“Butler – 27-9, 11-5 Atlantic 10 – It never hurt to have two possible games against a good team like Butler, and the Bulldogs are the premier team in the state of Indiana. In fact, they have been for some time now minus the slight dip in 2012.”
