Gerardot expected to buoy inexperienced IU women’s squad

The relationship between Tabitha Gerardot and Curt Miller and his staff goes back to when Gerardot was an up-and-coming prospect at Fort Wayne Canterbury and Miller and company were still at Bowling Green.

Rather than sign with the Falcons out of high school, Gerardot chose to stay in-state and play at Valparaiso, where she led the Crusaders in scoring over each of the last two seasons.

Now, after graduating from Valpo in three years, Gerardot is reuniting with Miller and his crew in Bloomington for her final year of eligibility.

“She contacted us last year when we first got here about potentially finishing her career here,” Miller said. “We decided not to go in that direction (immediately) because of how late we got here. But she contacted us at the end of this year and had a huge interest in our graduate program in linguistics, which is one of the best in the country.”

Gerardot, a 6-foot-1 forward, nearly averaged a double-double last year with 15.5 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. She appeared in every single for Valparaiso over her three years there, starting 91 of 93 contests. Much to Miller’s liking, she sank a team-high 26 3-pointers while shooting 34 percent from beyond the arc last season.

“Last year, our starting power forwards made 3 (3-pointers),” Miller said. “So, she helps spread the floor out and she helps our high-low game. We really believe in shooting power forwards. She fits tremendously to how we play. Her challenge will be the night-in, night-out competition of the Big Ten. It’s obviously bigger, faster, stronger than the Horizon League. The ability to adapt to the speed, strength and height of our league will be her ultimate challenge.”

  1. Went to Valparaiso for the first game of the year this past season. Gerardot is the real deal! she is a hard working swing player who can shoot and rebound at a high level. Hoosier fans will love her! She is a hard nosed combination undersized forward/center combination. Think of Whitney Thomas and you can picture Geradot but, about an inch taller. Geradot is a better outside shooter. Trust me when I say she will be the team leader! Go Hoosiers!!
