Top Canadian women’s recruit has Indiana among her finalists

Kia Nurse, the top Canadian women’s basketball prospect in the class of 2014, has Indiana among her list of five finalists, according to this story from Swish Appeal.com.

Nurse’s list includes IU, Penn State, Tennessee, UConn and Kentucky. The Hoosiers had an in-home visit last month. Nurse, a 6-foot-0 guard from Hamilton, Ontario, would be considered one of the top 10-20 prospects in the United States.

Indiana coach Curt Miller has a few connections to the Nurse family. He coached Kia’s sister, Tamika, at Bowling Green during her senior season in 2009-10 after she transferred from Oregon. Her aunt, the former Raquel Nurse, played at Syracuse while Miller was on staff. Nurse’s brother, Darnell, was a first-round pick of the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers in this year’s draft.

The Hoosiers hosted Nurse at last season’s Hoosier Hysteria.

  1. Curt Miller continues to amaze me in his recruiting efforts! Getting in the door of a recruit so highly regarded is certainly a positive for the IU program! This just confirms the positive direction that this program is moving in with coach Miller and his staff on campus! Whether we get this girl or not is not the issue, simply getting in the door of such a high quality recruit is the main issue. This never happened with any of our past coaches! The season can’t start fast enough to suit me! Go Hoosiers!!
