Northwestern stuns Indiana, 54-47

Northwestern’s Drew Crawford scored 17 points and guard Tre Demps had 15 to lead Northwestern to a 54-47 upset of Indiana in front of 17,472 at Assembly Hall, handing the Hoosiers what might be their most painful loss of the season after their triumphant upset of Wisconsin on Tuesday.

Indiana fell to 12-6 overall, 2-3 in the Big Ten. Northwestern improved to 9-10, 2-4.

Indiana made just three of its first 25 field goals, scoring eight points in the first 16 minutes of action. The Hoosiers finished 15-for-60 from the field (25 percent). Freshman forward Noah Vonleh posted his first double-double since Dec. 7 with 15 points and 12 rebounds, but no other IU players scored in double-digits. Guards Yogi Ferrell and Evan Gordon finished a combined 5-for-26 from the field. Senior forward Will Sheehey was 1-for-7.

  1. IU won’t win any games when their “leadership” players go for those numbers. That’s a pathetic performance especially from Sheehey, who seems to be hurting the team more than helping with his awful jumper and sub-par defense.

  2. Shot 19% from the field the first half. I don’t ever remember an I.U. team shooting that low a percentage at Assembly Hall, ever? Embarrassing loss, and this one is on Coach Crean!

  3. I guess the positive from this game is that we get to meet a lot of new friends on the Scoop. Or at least get re-acquainted with those that only seem to pop at times like these.

We’ve seen a lot of “this one’s on Crean” type comments, and likely to see many more over the next few days. But that’s about it. More hit-and-runs.

I don’t entirely disagree. But I’d like to hear the drive-by hate-bangers expound a little more. How was this on Crean? What specifically did he do to warrant total culpability? What would you have done differently? Stick around and enlighten us. Explain to us why you believe the douchebag suxxx. Because we’re dying to hear your no doubt expert opinions in exacting detail.
