Indiana vs. Iowa

Top 9th: Luke Harrison struck out the first two batters he faced before giving up a single. He then got Jimmy Frankos to ground the ball back to him to end the game. IU wins 5-2 and advances to play the winner of tonight’s Minnesota-Michigan game at 10 p.m. tomorrow on BTN.


Bottom 8th: Indiana went down 1-2-3 for the first time in this game. However, the Hoosiers lead 5-2 going into the ninth.


Top 8th: Joey DeNato gave up a single in the eighth, but recorded another strikeout to get to nine in the game. IU leads 5-2.


Bottom 7th: Dustin DeMuth singled with one out in the seventh, but Brad Hartong grounded to a 6-4-3 double play to end it. IU leads 5-2.


Top 7th: DeNato struck out two more batters in the seventh and is now up to eight for the game. He’s thrown 90 pitches in seven innings. IU leads 5-2.


Bottom 6th: Casey Rodrigue drew a leadoff walk, but Kyle Schwarber grounded to a 3-6 double play. Sam Travis then grounded out to end the inning. IU leads 5-2.


Top 6th: Joey DeNato struck out a pair of batters in the sixth and has six strikeouts through six innings. He’s thrown 80 pitches. IU leads 5-2.


Bottom 5th: Dustin DeMuth was hit by a pitch to start the fifth, and Sasha Kuebel came out for Nick Hibbing. Left fielder Brad Hartong singled up the middle and DeMuth was held at third. Right fielder Will Nolden grounded to short. Iowa took the force play at second and tried to turn the double play. The throw was wide of the bag and went to rail at first base, and Nolden was thrown out trying to go to second, but DeMuth scored on the play. IU leads 5-2.


Top 5th: Joey DeNato retired the first two hitters he faced in the fifth, then caught a break for the final out. Eric Toole reached with a two-out single to center. Second baseman Jake Mangler grounded to third and Dustin DeMuth’s throw skipped past Sam Travis. Toole was running on the play and kept running, trying to score when the ball rebounded back to Travis off the rail behind the bag to end the inning. IU leads 4-2.


Bottom 4th: Tim O’Conner recorded his first extra-base hit of the season with a one-out double down the left field line, then scored when second baseman Casey Rodrigue tripled into the right center field gap. Rodrigue scored when Kyle Schwarber grounded to third base against a heavy shift and IU took a 4-2 lead in the fourth.


Top 4th: Iowa tied the game in the fourth. Tyler Peyton led off with a single to center. Jake Yacinich followed with a hard bunt back to Joey DeNato, who turned to try to get the out at second base, but failed to field the ball first. Designated hitter Dan Potempa followed with a single to left to score Peyton to make it 2-2. DeNato struck out the next better, Schwarber threw Yacinich out at third trying to steal and Kris Goodman flied to left to end the inning. Game tied 2-2.


Bottom 3rd: Sam Travis led off the third with a ground-rule double and Scott Donley drew a walk, but Dustin DeMuth failed to get a bunt down and struck out, Brad Hartong grounded to second and Will Nolden grounded to third to end the inning. IU still leads 2-1.


Top 3rd: Joey DeNato needed just 10 pitches to get through the third, picking up his third strikeout. IU leads 2-1.


Bottom 2nd: Indiana got a couple of breaks in the second. Left fielder Brad Hartong hit a hard grounder that Iowa’s Nick Day misplayed for an error to start the inning. He moved to second on a groundout by Will Nolden, then scored when shortstop Nick Ramos singled past day. After a groundout on a hit-and run sent Ramos to second. He scored when Casey Rodrigue lined a base hit to center field and hustled it into a double. IU leads 2-1.


Top 2nd: Joey DeNato gave up a lead-off double to Dan Potempa to start the second inning, but then struck out Taylor Zeutenhorst looking with a slider. Kris Goodman flied to center to send Potempa to third, but DeNato blew a fastball past Jimmy Frankos to end the inning. Iowa leads 1-0.


Bottom 1st: Casey Rodrigue and Scott Donley singled in the first, but Iowa center fielder Eric Toole made a pair of impressive sliding catches to help Sasha Kuebel out of the first. Iowa leads 1-0.


Top 1st: Iowa’s Eric Toole reached on an infield single, went to third on an errant pickoff throw by Joey DeNato and scored on an RBI groundout by Jake Mangler. DeNato retired the next two hitters, but Iowa leads 1-0.
