IU’s Kinnaird wins 800 at USATF Junior Championships

Indiana freshman Tre’Tez Kinnaird won the 800 meters at the USATF Junior National Championships Sunday in Eugene, Ore., finishing in 1:48.01 and qualifying for the IAAF World Junior Championships, also in Eugene, Ore., July 22-27. The release from IU follows.

Freshman Tre’tez Kinnaird wins 800m, qualifies for World Junior Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman Tre’tez Kinnaird led wire to wire and won the 800m title at the USATF Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday at Hayward Field.

Kinnaird, who crossed the finish line in 1:48.01, earned a spot on Team USA for the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships, July 22-27 in Eugene, Ore.

Freshman Eric Claxton finished in fifth-place in the 1500m run in 3:52.94. Andrew Miller finished in sixth-place in the hammer throw with a career-best mark of 62.61m (205-5), the third best mark in IU school history. Freshman Chanli Mundy finished eighth in the 5,000m run in 18:13.76.

Competing at the Canadian Junior Championships, freshman Danielle Quinn won the title in the triple jump with a mark of 12.25m. Quinn will have another meet later this month to attempt to achieve the qualifying standard of 12.90m for the World Junior Championships.
