Jason Spriggs still “a little gimpy,” consecutive start streak in jeopardy

Indiana coach Kevin Wilson said Tuesday on the Big Ten Coaches Teleconference that left tackle Jason Spriggs continues to work through a knee sprain suffered late in last week’s 37-15 loss to Maryland.

Spriggs’ status for Saturday likely won’t be determined until later in the week. Spriggs has started 28 consecutive games dating back to the first game of his freshman year.

“He’s a little gimpy still,’ Wilson said. “He doesn’t have anything that’s going to require anything major, other than just (seeing) how stable, how strong he is, how much he can push off and how physical, how strong he can play. He’s done a boatload of treatment here with Sunday being a light day and Monday being a day off. We’ll see how it progresses.

“He’s played a lot, he’s started every game. Luckily we’ve got nine guys who’ve started and the backups coming in have started games and we have to be able to handle that. I think we will. I know he wants to play. He’s a good player and he’s got a string of starts. We’ll see how it moves between now and Saturday.”
