BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana University sophomore goalkeeper Colin Webb was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Webb helped lead the Hoosiers to a share of the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic title last weekend, playing No. 9 Georgetown to a 1-1 tie and defeating No. 12 Marquette, 1-0.

Against the Hoyas Webb had four saves in 110 minutes of action, battling a potent Georgetown attack. Webb and the Hoosiers came back on Sunday to post the first shutout of the 2014 season, using a goal from freshman Michael Riedford in the 32nd minute for a 1-0 victory.

IU’s defense was also recognized by Top Drawer Soccer as freshman defender Grant Lillard was named to the website’s team of the week. In all Webb had three players in front of him on a four-man back line that had never played in an official IU match before Friday.

The Hoosiers are back in action this weekend as they travel to the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament in Notre Dame, Indiana. Indiana faces Kentucky on Friday, September 5 at 5 p.m. ET, followed by Dartmouth on Sunday, September 7 at 11:30 a.m. ET.
