Blackmon named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Indiana guard James Blackmon Jr. earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday.

Blackmon shot a combined 54 percent (20-for-37) from the field, including a 13-for-21 mark from 3-point range, while averaging 22 points and six rebound over a three-game stretch. He scored 19 points and added five rebounds against Texas Southern on Monday before leading IU with 26 points in a win over No. 22 Southern Methodist on Thursday. Blackmon finished the week with 21 points and six rebounds against Lamar on Saturday.

The last IU freshman to earn the honor was Troy Williams on March 10.
