Freshman of the Year Lillard paces IU soccer honors

Indiana freshman center back Grant Lillard collected a trio of honors, as the All-Big Ten awards were announced Tuesday night.

Lillard was a unanimous selection to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team en route to winning Big Ten Freshman of the Year. The 6-foot-4 Hinsdale, Ill., native has started all 19 games for the Hoosiers and scored four goals along the way. He is the second straight Hoosier to win Freshman of the Year, following Tommy Thompson a year ago.

Sophomore midfielder Tanner Thompson and junior forward/midfielder Femi Hollinger-Janzen were named first team All-Big Ten. Thompson leads the Hoosiers in scoring with five goals and three assists, while Hollinger-Janzen shares the team lead in goals with five.

Also, senior Dylan Lax was named IU’s Sportsmanship Award winner.
