Indiana women’s b’ball beats Incarnate Word, 85-49

Indiana (4-0) beat Incarnate Word 85-49, but head coach Teri Moren said after the game that she felt the Hoosiers took a step back.

Shooting 48 percent from the field, Indiana was not always efficient offensively, turning the ball over 16 times and shooting 6-of-22 from behind the arc. Incarnate Word (2-2) shot 35 percent from the field and hit 3-of-14 shots from 3-point distance.

The Hoosiers did have five players in double figures, including Jenn Anderson with a team-high 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Tyra Buss added 17 points and three steals for the Hoosiers. Amanda Cahill produced a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

  1. Can anyone tell me why all but one of the upper classwomen never play? I’m guessing injuries but haven’t been able to find anything. Are they out for the year or can we expect them to play yet this year? Also, are the women not staying on the court for autographs anymore? I’ve taken my grand daughter to the last two games and she wants to meet Jenn and Amanda but they’ve been gone by the time we get there?

    1. Greg,
It was announced before the season that Nicole Bell and Kaila Hulls would be part of the team but no longer play for health reasons. Claire Jakibucek had arthroscopic knee surgery and is expected to return. I think Amanda and Jenn have been needed for postgame press conferences the last two games, which is why they weren’t out there. If you wait a little longer they might come back out for autographs, or you’ll have to catch a game where they don’t play so well as to get interviewed!

  2. Thank your Jeremy! I can’t believe the improvement in Jenn since last year. Last year she played behind two other “bigs”. This year she’s making her presence felt, avoiding foul trouble, and how about that touch she’s putting on the ball. She and Amanda owned the paint today. So impressed by this team and I suppose Zoey and I will have to wait for an off night. lol.

  3. T. Moren is a coach of high expectations as she noted the team took a step backwards in this game with 16 turnovers. Good for her.

  4. Coach Moren was correct, they did not play well last night but, still scored 85 points. This team has a lot of players who can score, again, their defense and rebounding will make or break us when it comes to conference play. I saw the women’s bracketology on ESPNW last week and the Big 10 was rated the second strongest basketball conference behind the SEC. A lot of that has to do with adding Rutgers and Maryland (final 4 team last year) to the conference. Both of those schools are usually top 10 teams every year! The conference will be brutal this year. Our lack of depth in the post will be critical this year. Getting a healthy Jacibucek back could help us up front.

Our ability to score will keep us in most conference games but, our weak pre-conference schedule may hurt us come conference time. I would hope we strengthen the schedule next year. Without a doubt, this is a fun team to watch, and believe me being a long time women’s season ticket holder, there have been many teams in the past that were not much fun to watch! Since Curt Miller came on board and now Terri Moren, our recruiting has picked up big time! This is something that needs to continue. Again having attending women’s games since the mid 80’s, this team is playing the game the way it was made to play; sharing the ball, playing strong defense and continuing to play extremely hard on the court. And oh yeah, they know how to conduct themselves off the court 🙂 Go Hoosiers!!
