Devin Davis works out with teammates in Indianapolis #iubb

Indiana sophomore Devin Davis returned to the basketball court during this week’s break, working out with teammates Yogi Ferrell and Troy Williams at Warren Central on Christmas Eve.

Davis’ father, Devin Davis Sr., posted a video to his Instagram account on Wednesday showing his son, Ferrell and Williams dribbling and shooting together in Indianapolis.

“Got in the gym this morning with my guys,” Davis Sr. tweeted. “Love to see Dev back working out with his brothers.”

IU coach Tom Crean said last week that he anticipates Davis returning to classes in Bloomington when the spring semester begins Jan. 12. Although Davis’ return to basketball team activities seemed less clear when he addressed the situation last week, Crean indicated that he and the doctors will be monitoring Davis’ progress closely over the next few weeks.

Crean said that while taking a redshirt year remains an option for Davis, the team has contingency plans in place for if and when he is cleared to play.

“There’s still a long time before the semester starts,” Crean said last week. “He’s still got a lot of healing to do before the next semester starts. As far as anytime looking at him being on the court, nobody sees that right now. As far as him being able to get better every day, get his physical strength and stamina up, not to mention what he needs to do with his therapy, that’s the most important.”

  1. Glad to see Davis well enough to put some time in on the court. I hope that he will be able to be himself again which will take time to get it back and also get in shape. In one way, I would like to see him back playing on the floor with the team but in another, I feel it would be more fair to him to let him get back in shape physically and his basketball skills back and give him a red shirt for the year. I feel having him for a full year longer later rather than half a season now would be better for him and us – a win/win situation.
