Indiana adds 3-star prospect Reakwon Jones #iufb

Indiana’s 2015 recruiting class continued to grow on Monday with the addition of three-star linebacker Reakwon Jones.

Jones, a 6-foot-2 prospect out of Lynn Haven, Fla., was also considering California, South Florida and Florida Atlantic. 247 Sports’ Alex McCarthy was the first to report the commitment. Jones posted a message to his Twitter account at noon Monday, announcing his decision.

“I’ve decided to further my education and football career at Indiana University,” Jones wrote, “and will be shutting down all recruiting and extremely thankful for the opportunities that all of the schools have offered me. Thank you all again. IM A HOOSIER.”

Rivals considers Jones a two-star prospect. He also plays safety, but’s Matt Weaver reports he will play linebacker at Indiana. He is the 19th player to commit — not including UAB transfers Jordan Howard and Marqui Hawkins — to what is expected to be a full 25-man class.

  1. Converting from safety to linebacker implies that he has the speed to cover tight ends, slot receivers and backs coming out of the backfield, and body type necessary to become big enough to tackle Big Ten running backs. Nice get!

  2. Recruiting is without question Coach Wilson’s strong suit. In my opinion, of all the areas of program improvement, the quality of athletes stands out as the most dramatic. When comparing this roster to years back in terms of athleticism and depth, the effort from our coaching staff is very praiseworthy and they are doing it “right.”

  3. recruiting is going very well, a few more good recruits could really help this class…..IU still needs a running back and a few lineman……although this class looks good on paper, you never know what or who is going to development or leave the program (tre roberson)…..i will not feel good about this team until we have a very good backup behind Nate Sudfield……lately in the big 10 no quarterbacks that start the seasons seems to finish the season….An unless IU finds a very good backup, this team improvement will be limited!!! the coming season is a make or break season for this team and coaching staff, a 6 and 6 season would be GREAT and the fans will return.

  4. iu79 – Perhaps you missed this but IU recruited the rb from UAB who was 7th in the nation last year with over 1500 yards. He will be able to play right away and we have also Redding back and a kid named Tommy Mister who redshirted last year with an injury.

  5. Maybe Mr. Mister should be tried at Quarterback. After watching his highlight film, looks better than what started last year..But then who am I? Not a coach, he sure looks like a great player, says he wants to play the slot receiver some..He is fast enough… Just my thoughts.

  6. I am going to venture to say slot receiver will be manned for most possessions by J-Shun Harris. Also former Ritter and recent UAB transfer Kyree Hollis could work in as well. He is a walk-on but in HS was an effective producer and greasy quick. The kind Wilson likes in the slot.

  7. Of all the highlights I watched of him during his Senior year, he only played safety in one play. All the other highlights were of him at linebacker. Based on those highlights, he’s clearly pursuing that position. He appears to be very aggressive and an effective tackler. He’ll need about 20 more pounds on his 6’2″ frame to be effective and stay healthy against Big Ten running backs.
