Mark Murphy named a Bobby Bowden Award finalist #iufb

Indiana safety Mark Murphy is one of three finalists for the Seminole Tribe of Florida Bobby Bowden Award, given annually to the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision player who epitomizes a student-athlete.

Murphy is joined by Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty and Mississippi defensive lineman D.T. Shackleford. The award will be presented by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at the College Championship breakfast on Sunday, Jan. 11.

Murphy earned a selection to the Capital One Academic All-American first team for the second straight season, while becoming the third Hoosier to collect the honor twice. The Akron, Ohio native was one of 17 finalists for the Campbell Trophy, one of 30 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award and was a candidate for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and the Wuerffel Trophy.

He recently finished his career with 279 tackles, 174 solo stops, four interceptions, two interception returns and nine pass breakups.
