Big Ten baseball coaches picked Indiana to finish fourth, the conference announced Wednesday. The coaches also selected senior outfielder Scott Donley, junior pitcher Scott Effross and senior pitcher Ryan Halstead.

The coaches voted on the top six teams, tabbing conference newcomer Maryland first, Nebraska second and Illinois third, followed by IU, Michigan and Ohio State.

The Hoosiers, who open the season Friday at Stanford at 6 p.m. (Pac-12 Network, have won each of the last two Big Ten regular season and tournament championships.

Donley is a two-time First Team All-Big Ten selection, who was second with a .383 batting average in conference games last season. Effross, who will start Friday’s season opener, set a program record with 32 appearances last year, while Halstead is returning from season-ending knee surgery after setting an IU record with 11 saves in 2013.

After Effross, new IU coach Chris Lemonis will have Christian Morris start Saturday’s game, followed by Jake Kelzer on Sunday.
