IUWBB: Indiana vs. No. 21 Nebraska

FINAL: Nebraska 67, Indiana 64

1:05: IU holding on, down 63-57. But they will need stops and some big shots to pull through.

3:59: It’s a 63-54 lead for Nebraska. A lot of turnovers back and forth, and the coaches aren’t happy about the calls from the refs. Teri Moren was slapping the scorer’s table after Jess Walter was called for stepping out of b0unds. Moren got a warning, though she was standing right there and swears Walter wasn’t out of bounds. Then the Huskers were called for a double dribble and Connie Yori was yelling at the refs.

No love for the men and women in stripes today.

7:54: Jess Walter providing some freshman ups and downs. She hits a 3 one possession, misses a layup off the side of the backboard the next, then comes down a blocks a shot on the defensive end. A lot of energy, at least. Hoosiers are hanging in this one, down 59-49.

10:58: Emily Cady is dominating this half. She is 3-of-4 from the field, 4-of-4 from the line this half for 10 points. She has 19 total. It’s a 56-44 lead for Nebraska. The Cornhuskers are on a 7-0 run.

13:50: Amanda Cahill is the second Hoosier to hit 11 points (the first being Larryn Brooks). Cahill hit a 3, then responded to two straight buckets by Nebraska forward Emily Cady by attacking the basket herself. It’s 49-44, Nebraska.

15:33: Nebraska expanded its lead to seven at one point, but a jumper by Amanda Cahill and two free throws by the freshman cut the lead to four. But Nebraska’s Chandler Smith hit a wide-open 3 from the top of the key to give the Cornhuskers’ a 45-39 lead.

HALFTIME: Nebraska 34, Indiana 30

Hoosiers Taylor Agler with a steal on the possession, but her pass downcourt to Tyra Buss falls short and is intercepted. Nebraska can’t get a shot off.

21 sec: Hoosiers are down 34-30 and its Nebraska possession. It’s see if the Cornhuskers strike last.

2:58: Hoosiers have made a run to tie this game 30-30. A big 3 from Lyndsay Leikem in the corner. A steal by the Hoosiers on the next possession got the crowd on its feet, but Larryn Brooks missed the layup in transition. But a little bit of energy in the Hall now.

6:43: Nebraska holds a 23-18 lead. The Hoosiers had cut it to 20-18 after a 3 by Larryn Brooks, but the Hoosiers’ zone defense failed to get out to a 3-point shooter on the other end. Teri Moren called a timeout and really yelled at her squad. Big breakdown there.

11:39: Larryn Brooks hits the Hoosiers’ first 3 of the game, but they are 1-of-6 from that distance thus far. Nebraska has missed only, the Cornhuskers’ only attempt thus far from distance. IU is 4-of-14 from the field overall. It’s a 12-10 lead for the Cornhuskers.

15:55: Alexis Gassion got things started with a block on one end and a jumper on the other. Tyra Buss slashed through the lane for a lay-in to make it 4-0. But Nebraska has charged back, with missed shots and turnovers on Indiana’s end. Nebraska and IU are a combined 4-of-13 from the field, with two turnovers apiece. It’s 4-4.

It’s senior day, and the Hoosiers will face a team that starts four seniors in No. 21 Nebraska.

The Cornhuskers will be without their leader in points per game and assists, Rachel Theriot, and they have lost four of five games. But so have the Hoosiers.
