IUWBB: Schedule pairings announced

No, the Hoosiers will not have to face Maryland twice next year.

But when they do face the Terrapins, they will have to travel to College Park to do it.

Schedule pairings for Big Ten teams were made available today, and here are Indiana’s matchups for next year:

Home: Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Rutgers

Away: Maryland, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue

Home/Away: Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin

Getting Illinois and Wisconsin twice, teams the Hoosiers beat this year, could benefit the Hoosiers. But the Big Ten ain’t easy. Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska are three quality programs that IU will have to play twice.

Also, the Hoosiers have some tough road-only opponents. IU’s lone contest against in-state rival Purdue will come at Mackey Arena. Kelsey Mitchell, sure to be as much a star as a sophomore as she has been a freshman, will await the Hoosiers in Columbus. Her backcourt-mate Ameryst Alston will be a senior. And forward Nia Coffey and guard Ashley Deary will be a juniors when the Hoosiers head to Evanston, Illinois, to face Northwestern.

At home, the Hoosiers get Michigan, the team that beat them yesterday for its 10th win in a row in the series. They also get Michigan State at Assembly Hall, a team they beat on New Year’s Eve at home but lost to on the road.

Of course, this is all a year away, so it’s hard to really know what these teams will look like — or, more importantly, what a more matured Hoosiers squad, in their second year under Teri Moren, will look like — when Big Ten season rolls around.

Stay tuned.
