Logan Sowers earns Big Ten co-Freshman of the Week honor #iubase

For the fourth time this season, Logan Sowers is the Big Ten’s co-Freshman of the Week.

Sowers helped Indiana to four wins last week, including a three-game sweep of Ohio State, while recording a hit in each contest against the Buckeyes and two hits at Ball State. In the season finale, Sowers recorded a career-high four RBIs on his first career grand slam.

“I was just seeing the ball well,” Sowers said. “Just trying to hit it hard.”

Sowers drove in a team-high six runs and scored five of Indiana’s 30 runs scored over the Hoosiers’ four games last week. IU now has 24 weekly conference honors since 2013 and seven this season — four of which are owned by Sowers.

The Lafayette native shares the award with Purdue shortstop Harry Shipley. Illinois first baseman David Kerian earned conference player of the week honors and Northwestern right-hander Brandon Magallones earned the pitcher of the week selection.

Indiana, which clinched the No. 6 seed over the weekend, opens the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday against No. 3 Michigan at 10 a.m.
