Hoosiers drop out of both polls #iubb

A bad week in Hawaii dumped Indiana from the top 25.

The Hoosiers dropped out of both the USA Today Coaches poll and the Associated Press Top 25 on Monday, days removed from losing two of their three games at the Maui Invitational. IU was ranked No. 13 in the AP poll and No. 14 in the Coaches poll entering Maui, but poor play in all three games was enough to knock it out of the rankings.

Indiana was fifth among teams also receiving votes in the AP poll with 26.

Three Big Ten teams are included in this week’s AP poll, including No. 2 Maryland and No. 3 Michigan State. Purdue jumped five spots to No. 11.

Indiana will also see No. 7 Duke on Wednesday at 9:15 p.m. at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Hoosiers’ first post-Maui action comes tonight at 7 against Alcorn State at Assembly Hall.

“I just think we have to come out hungry,” sophomore guard Robert Johnson said. “Coming off a trip like that is a disappointment when you don’t play how you wanted to. You want to go out there and get back in a positive direction.

  1. With the way the Hoosiers played in Maui, they’re lucky they were able to retain their B1G membership, let alone their D-1 status.

Funny, we talk all the time about the soft pre-conference schedule. Heading into to Maui, it was looking good to get early tests from Kansas, Vandy & UCLA. Nope, we scraped the bottom of the barrel again. Not only are we losing, we haven’t really played anyone that would be considered a contender for anything. Duke at Cameron is going to be the first real team we play. After that, there isn’t a single ranked team on our schedule (ND dropped out, too). Sans ND, we play the powerhouses of Morehead State, IPFW (WOW, they’re playing in Fort Wayne!!!), McNeese State and Kennesaw State before heading into conference play. Our RPI is going to be so pathetic, it does a disservice to numbers. We should just get a ranking in the form of a symbol like “The Artist Formerly Known As Prince.”

Speaking of the Duke game, I’m afraid Grayson Allen is going to drop 70 on us in that game. Who’s going to guard him? I say start RJ and give him that assignment. Let Blackmon come in off the bench until he stops wearing a cape and speaking Castilian Spanish. Playing the zone with this IU team could give Duke the chance to shatter some school records.

Coach K has to be salivating watching Indiana tape right now.

That was hilarious. Well done, Double Down

Has any team in the history of IU Basketball ever dropped over 12 spots in a top-25 national poll in the course of one week? Outside of three starting b-ball superstars blowing out their ACL’s in a holiday weekend skiing trip catastrophe of the 1935 season of the Sheboygan Loons, I don’t believe that sort of cliff fall has been repeated in the history of any college ranking..

  3. I can’t top that……..I will be laughing all night ‘Castilian Spanish.’ Instead of the candy stripes maybe should implement the capes. Classic DD
