Polls, Bruce Brown and other IU basketball notes #iubb

Hours before taking the court for tonight’s contest against Austin Peay, Indiana received a boost in the polls and in the recruiting world.

The Hoosiers moved up one spot to No. 14 in this week’s Associated Press poll, which was released Monday afternoon. Indiana beat Eastern Illinois on Friday in the team’s only game of the week. The Hoosiers play twice at home this week — tonight against Austin Peay and Thursday vs. Creighton — before flying to Hawaii for next week’s Maui Invitational.

In the recruiting realm, Indiana made the cut with one of its top targets in the 2016 class. Four-star shooting guard Bruce Brown announced Monday that his list is down to Indiana and Miami. According to the Twitter account for his AAU team, the Boston Amateur Basketball Club, Brown will announce Wednesday on the final day of the early signing period.

Brown whittled down his list after taking a visit this weekend to Purdue. Considered a top 40 player in the 2016 class, Brown visited Bloomington during the weekend of Oct. 16. Alex Popp, Brown’s coach at Vermont Academy, says whichever program lands Brown will be getting a player who approaches both ends of the court in attack mode.

“Bruce values winning over everything,” Popp told The Herald-Times last month.

Meanwhile, Indiana has officially locked in another member of its 2016 recruiting class. Curtis Jones signed and filed his National Letter of Intent on Monday. Both Jones, a four-star combo guard, and Crown Point shooter Grant Gelon are now officially in the fold for next season.

  1. Bruce Brown makes this a great recruiting class. Possibly the best in the Crean era. Let’s hope he sees the level of committment from IU and the level of support from IU fans who are ready to be lifelong BB fans.

  2. I agree completely Sam. By all reports he’s competes on both ends of the floor. I hope he joins Davis, Gelon & Jones in this class. Go Hoosiers!!!
