  1. I know it is only 6 games in but this team has had waaaay too much drama the last three seasons. What was the vibe or dynamic of the locker room after this trip. For whatever reason this team just looked lost on the court.

Trying to find comps and the one team that comes to mind it Bruce
Webers last Illinois team. There was just a bunch of stuff going on there. Upperclassman leader benched, Demtrius McCamey. I think they went 11-0 to start the year ranked as high as 19 and then the wheels fell off and ended 17-15. It didn’t help that Jermene Richmond, their freshman McDonalds All American checked out and was kicked off the team. But Weber really used the media to call out players that year and it blew up in his face. Ultimately led to his undoing. Is that a fair comp?

  2. The title of this video is spot on. I don’t even have to watch it. I normally think that IU basketball fans are a little too critical. But so far this year, everyone should be extremely critical of this team. Other than a good stretch vs. Creighton, they have looked absolutely awful. Abhorrent. If there ever is a time to be critical of Tom Crean, now is the time. I hear everyone praising him in the national media as a good coach. Explain then how you get your ass handed to you by Wake Forest and UNLV and barely beat St.Johns…no excuses. Indiana basketball will never be what we want it to be as long as TC is the coach. Enough is enough.

  3. It’s a fair comparison. Crean is talking about his players as “they” and not “we”. Crean is attempting to shift the blame to the players and I don’t think the players are going to take it. “They” are starting to implode, openly showing frustration with each other. A total meltdown is possible.

  4. HORRIBLE DEFENSE AND COACHING. CTC IS CLUELESS. BLACKMON, WILLAMS AND YOGI NEED TO SIT . THEY ARE KILLING THE TEAM . 12 OF THE TURNOVERS WERE THEIRS. PLUS THEY PLAY ZERO DEFENSE . AS USUAL OUR TEAM IS A JOKE AS WELL AS THE COACHING STAFF. ZIESLOFT 4 FOR 5 3’S AND AS USUAL ON THE BENCH
The HOOSIERS DESERVE BETTER. A CHANGE HAS TO MADE. PLEASE CALL THE A.D. AND VOICE YOUR OPINION. JOHNSON, BEIAFELDT, HArtman, Ziesloft and Bryant play defense .

  5. This is pretty much going to be the tone this season. Could be bottom feeder but probably a middle of the pack finisher (fifth, sixth or seventh)

  6. Lead in for an ESPN segment: “Turnovers plague IU”…seems this was a concern 3 years ago! Nothing has changed and for sure NO IMPROVEMENT in basic, fundamental basketball. Light Up the AD and Presidents office. Preseason evaluation from IndyStar had IU winning 22-25 games this season. This team will be lucky to win 15 games.

  7. I can only assume at this point that Crean draws up the first play of the game for Troy to turn it over. He’s 4-4 in games he starts. That is darn right impressive consistency.

Hey Tom, remember how a couple games ago I said less Troy, more Rob and Nick… Then you benched Troy and started those 2… and we won… remember that? Then I said nice job, keep it going… even less Troy, less JBJ… more of the the guys that take care of the ball and understand how to actually play basketball. What do you do – start Troy and JBJ again… Troy turns it over the first 3 times he touches it… Blackmon looks lost… we never feed the post…. we turn it over 20+ times and get embarrassed.

You have 2 choices – listen to me and win… or listen to whatever stupid voices you have in your head (probably including Troy’s mom) and get fired. Up to you.

  8. Agree with #5 Ferrell Williams Blackmon r killing this team. I can’t believe anyone thinks these guys will ever play at the next level. Well maybe in Poland.

  9. Good point! Crean probably did start Troy because of Troy’s Mother’s Twitter. Simply amazing that she sent it out! I feel compassion for Troy and his Mother at seeing Troy’s NBA hopes wither, and Troy most certainly did not play with confidence yesterday.

The bigger point, of course, is that our ‘team’ is once again a disparate group of “talented” individuals.

Only problem is: Basketball is a Team game.

And a Team game needs a Coach who can Lead, and Players who have confidence in their Coach.

  10. Good call Rock. Ferrel = no leader.Williams= played too much Aau ball. Blackmon= lost. Ctc= scared of Ms. patty

  11. No on Dane, he has to climb the rankings a bit. Alumni and former players are frustrated so it will be a homerun. Stevens will be th next coach at Indiana…if Glass knows what’s good for him. There has been enough noise made that even improvement and a deep run and Crean is still gone!

  12. Didn’t Dane Fife lead the player “revolt” to either make Mike Davis the head coach or they would transfer?

  13. No way Stevens is leaving Boston. They are playing well and as bad as the East is they will continue to improve and make the playoffs. He will get in the players he needs and is good enough to take them to the finals. He will then be huge in Boston and get a nice raise and extension with a gigantic buyout clause. I can’t imagine what his buyout clause would be now. IU couldn’t afford a Crean buyout, a Stevens buyout and a Stevens salary.

  14. Why not Steve Alford? Has a record of 513-258 for a .665% has coached 24 years..this season is his 25th…has taken teams to 19 NCAA Tournaments out of 24 years….his 513 wins is the most by any coach under the age of 50….EVER…2 Sweet 16’s….and a legend in Indiana. His dad is very well respected in Indiana and could help recruit Indiana high school players to IU. I agree he has not been Hall of Fame type of coach…but put him in Indiana with the help of his dad in recruiting and I think IU turns back into a national contender year in and year out.Brad Stevens is not coming to IU….his next job will be Louisville or Duke.

  15. I can promise you, as a denizen of New England, that Brad Stevens is already the Golden Boy up here. He is also already considered one of the elite NBA coaches by his peers. The chances of him leaving Boston are very slim, at least any time soon.

  16. I am truly and simply seeking the truth: What in the world is the problem? You have such talent and quickness in Ferrell, Blackmon, and Williams, and yet they cannot stop a dribble penetration on defense. What does this team do in practice? I have no idea, but it appears they never do any serious head-on-the ball drills, no help and recover drills, or no double help drills. These things do not involve rocket surgery, yet good team defense does not happen automatically. Come on TC.
