UConn at IU soccer

FINAL
Indiana never could find the insurance goal, but that’s nothing new. This is the Hoosiers’ sixth 1-0 win this season, but they had to weather a late push by UConn, including a header off a corner kick by goalkeeper Scott Levene that went just inches high as time expired. IU faces the Wake Forest-Charlotte winner next weekend. — UPDATE: Wake Forest edges Charlotte, 1-0, so Hoosiers will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C.. Date and time to be determined. HOOSIERS 1, HUSKIES 0

HALFTIME
Indiana could easily be up by a couple more goals. The best chances were a volley off the crossbar by Femi Hollinger-Janzen and a point-blank look that Billy McConnell couldn’t square up, but Hoosiers have the lead with a 10-2 advantage in shots and 4-0 edge in corner kicks. It was a thoroughly dominating first half, but UConn has some speed and athleticism up top that is capable of a quick strike if IU gets caught napping. Winner of this one plays the Wake Forest-Charlotte winner next weekend. HOOSIERS 1, HUSKIES 0

FIRST HALF
6:52: This was a goal that was a long-time coming for Indiana, but it finally came on the 10th shot of the match for the Hoosiers. Andrew Gutman worked the left flank, got around a defender and tip-toed the end line before centering the ball to Ben Maurey, who one-timed a shot with his left foot into the open net. HOOSIERS 1, HUSKIES 0

  1. Great win! As long as IU is still playing, another championship is possible! But how can only 600 plus fans show up to watch an NCAA Tournament home match? That is terrible support, even given the Thanksgiving break! IU’s soccer program is first class, our fan support is bush league!

  2. Jeremy, why is it that the last 3 stories that Jon has posted on this website about women’s basketball, we have been unable to post a comment until I bring it to someone’s attension?

    1. MikeC,
Like I said before, there’s something wrong with Jon’s setup on the blog. I’ll try to remember to fix it until we get him straightened out. Be patient.

  3. Thank you Jeremy, you know what a huge women’s fan that I am. It’s just very frustrating when this continues to happen. I know that it will be fixed shortly. I noticed after I posted my comment yesterday that it was corrected this morning. Again, thank you.
