IU’s Johnson, Morgan on the mend #iubb

Tom Crean isn’t sure whether Juwan Morgan and Robert Johnson will be available for Indiana’s Big Ten Tournament opener on Friday at noon.

But the IU coach said Monday that both injured players are showing signs of progress.

Crean revealed on his weekly radio show that Morgan did not practice on Monday afternoon, but the freshman forward seems to be in a better place physically than he was when he originally aggravated his shoulder injury last week at Iowa.

“He was in pain like I’ve not seen him in since we’ve had him at Indiana on Tuesday night,” Crean said. “He was in a lot of pain. He was in so much pain. He was much better today.”

Meanwhile, Johnson’s recovery has Crean excited after the two spent time together on the court following the Hoosiers’ Sunday walkthrough. Johnson has not played since suffering a high-ankle sprain on Feb. 20 against Purdue.

“I was giddy (Sunday), and I was happy today with the progress he’s making,” Crean said. “I thought he did an excellent job. It was just a couple of us on the court after the guys were done. What the timeline is, I can’t give that. We’ll have to wait on that, but every little step is good.”
