Robert Johnson’s return for Sweet 16 is questionable #iubb

After aggravating his ankle injury on Saturday against Kentucky, Robert Johnson’s status for this weekend’s Sweet 16 is unclear.

Indiana coach Tom Crean said his sophomore guard is “iffy” to return for Friday night’s game against North Carolina. Johnson originally suffered a high-ankle sprain on Feb. 20 against Purdue and missed Indiana’s next four games before returning in Thursday’s NCAA Tournament opener against Chattanooga.

Johnson came off the bench in each of IU’s first two tournament games. He planted awkwardly on his left foot late in Saturday’s first half and did not return.

“We’re gonna to see,” Crean said about Johnson’s availability this week.

Crean was more optimistic about forward Juwan Morgan’s return. Morgan has been dealing with a separated shoulder that has forced him to leave three of IU’s last five games. Morgan told reporters that he’s been dealing with shoulder issues since his junior year of high school, so he has experience returning on short notice.

Although Crean said that Morgan is getting better, the freshman also required stitches to his head on Tuesday after taking a bump in practice.

“That poor guy,” Crean said. “We’re just gonna have to wait and see how it goes. We’ve been dealing with different injuries and it’s very hard to predict the timeline of it. We just leave it in the hands of the doctors and the rehabilitation part of it. Whatever happens, we’ll adjust to it.”

  1. Pretty interesting interview with Yogi and how Thomas compared his championship season to this one. They got be in Maui and struggled in December, but once the Big Ten season started that was when things turned around for that team and this one. Interesting parallels.
