Wilhite named Big Ten Player of the Week #iubase

The Big Ten has recognized another Indiana baseball player with its weekly honors.

Shortstop Brian Wilhite was named the league’s player of the week after hitting .562 with three home runs. Wilhite also drove in 10 runs, scored seven more and collected nine hits between four games last week. He joins IU pitchers Kyle Hart and Caleb Baragar as the third Hoosier to receive a Big Ten weekly nod.

Wilhite hit two home runs, including a grand slam, against Butler on Wednesday, while picking up a career-high six RBIs. He hit a second grand slam and finished with two hits in Friday’s weekend opener at Indiana State. Wilhite enters IU’s two midweek home games — Tuesday vs. Cincinnati and Wednesday vs. Evansville — riding a 10-game hitting streak.
