Indiana All-Stars and Junior All-Stars in Bloomington June 7

More evidence that basketball season never truly ends in Indiana will manifest locally June 7 when Bloomington South hosts Indiana All-Star Senior-Junior scrimmage games with a big Indiana University angle.

The girls and boys All-Stars conduct two scrimmage games every June in preparation for renewing their annual series with Kentucky, with signees and potential Hoosier recruits doting the rosters for both the All-Stars and the Juniors this year.

South’s Tucker Blackwell, still considering his college choice, and IU signee Grant Gelon of Crown Point are on the 2016 Indiana All-Star boys’ roster.

The boys’ Junior team will feature such IU recruiting targets as Southport’s Paul Scruggs, North Central’s Kris Wilkes, Fort Wayne Snider’s Malik Williams and Park Tudor’s Jaren Jackson.

The 6-foot-7 Wilkes (rated No. 12 nationally in the 2017 recruiting class according to Rivals.com), 6-3 Scruggs (No. 32), 6-10 Williams (No. 36) and 6-9 Jackson (No. 63) have all made several unofficial recruiting visits to Bloomington for Hoosier games over the past couple of seasons.

Heritage Christian’s 6-3 Darby Foresman, headed for the IU women’s program, is on a very talented 2016 All-Star girls’ roster headed up by McDonald’s All-Americans Jackie Young of Princeton (Notre Dame) and Lindsey Corsaro of Roncalli (Kentucky).

Young is the state’s all-time scoring leader with 3,268 points.

The girls’ game at South will start at 6 p.m., with the boys following at approximately 8 p.m.

  1. I saw a headline that IU recruit Curtis Jones “scored well” in the Derby All Star events in “Peegs”, but I can not find any article about it in the Scoop! What is the Scoop?

    1. BeatPurdue,
Curtis Jones scored 25 points in the Derby Classic last Friday on 11-of-24 from the field and just 2-of-9 from 3. He also had six rebounds and four assists. I discussed the night, including his highlight dunk off the backboard pass, in the video I posted — ScoopTalk: A minute on the Derby Festival Classic — so I didn’t repost the same thing in written form here.

  2. I have always thought that IU should extend a “preferred walk-on” offer to each and every boy or girl Indiana All-Star every year! As a “congratulations”, if nothing else. Let’s get Coach Crean and Moren to immediately do this before these games! Yes I know most of these players have scholarship offers already. So what? IU should still officially offer this every year!

  3. Thanks Jeremy for the always good work. My motto is: talk is cheap but when you put it in writing you have to stand by it! Sort of like the ladies who say: it don’t mean a thing until you give me that ring!
