IUWBB: Grad transfer Deane commits to IU

Amber Deane has committed to Indiana as a grad transfer for the 2016-17 season, according to a source.

This news comes only a couple hours after the completion of Deane’s visit to IU on Monday.

Deane played nine games for Dayton last season, her season cut short by a left leg injury. The 5-foot-9 guard averaged a team-best 15.3 points per game when healthy.

With Deane’s commitment, the Hoosiers have one scholarship remaining for ’16-17.

  1. Amber Deane is a very, very good player. I have seen her play probably 5 or 6 times over the years she was at Dayton, very explosive athletically and very quick. She will be a terrific addition to our team! Our lack of depth in the back court last year is starting to look like a strength this upcoming season with Tia Elbert now eligible and the addition of Ria Gulley and Deane. IU fans are going to love Deane!
Steve W, I agree that we should wait and see if Corsaro decides to come our way. She would be terrific in an IU uniform with the ability to play guard or the swing wing position with her 6 foot size. Having read about Kathleen Doyle, I am very intrigued about her but, I would wait to see what Corsaro is doing before making a push for Doyle simply because of her size and the fact that she is an Indiana girl. It would be great to add someone from the state to our roster.
It is really good to see IU going after these types of quality players to add to our program and very cool to see these players considering IU as a place to call home. This is what it takes to be a championship program! All of the credit goes to an aggressive coaching staff that is striving to make IU a major power within the conference. Go Hoosiers!!

  2. I am sure LC before they go after another smaller guard has a scholarship waiting on her at IU women if she so chooses the Hoosiers.

  3. There’s not much doubt IU has one set aside should Corsaro decide to come our way. Im guessing she would be the highest rated ever to come to IU. She just seems to have so much more to offer than the others mentioned. Besides being a 2/3 swing player she avg. around 10 rpg in her senior year at roncalli. Lets keep our fingers crossed on this one.

  4. Last night I watched on youtube when Dayton played a #22 Louisville team which they ended up beating rather easily 13 pts in the Gulf Coast Showcase. It happened early in the season before the Injury to Deane. Mike – I have to agree with you she has some game to bring to IU. In that game Deane had a career high 29 pts, but the highlight of the game was an over the shoulder behind her pass to an open teammate ala Larry Bird for a layup. I hope Deane is beyond that injury which it never seems to state what it was.
