IUWBB: Glenn Box added as assistant coach

Glenn Box has been hired as an assistant for the women’s basketball team, the program announced Wednesday.

Box, who has coached the last two seasons at Saint Louis, is the second assistant brought on by Teri Moren this offseason. Janese Banks was hired in May to replace Todd Starkey, who became head coach at Kent State. Box fills the position vacated by Curtis Loyd.

Rhet Wierzba, who came over to IU with Moren in August 2014, is the lone holdover from her original staff.

“We’re excited to welcome Glenn and his family to Indiana,” Moren said in a statement. “Glenn has 17 years of coaching experience including a head coaching stint at Rend Lake. I have enjoyed watching Glenn out on the recruiting trail and have always admired his work ethic and attention to detail.   He will work with our perimeter players and oversee our defense. I love Glenn’s energy and passion for the game. He will be a great compliment to Rhet and Janese. I know Glenn is excited to be here and grateful for the opportunity to represent the Hoosiers.”

Box spent two stints with the Billikens, the first from 2010-12. He then left to coach two seasons at Akron before returning to Saint Louis. While at Akron, Box primarily coached post players. He also focused on scheduling, which could fit a need for IU following Starkey’s exit.

Box also spent time at Western Michigan and Rend Lake College (Ill.), serving stints with the latter as a men’s assistant and a women’s head coach. At Rend Lake, a junior college, he guided the women’s team to a 64-31 record in three seasons.

“I am truly honored and privileged for the opportunity that Coach Moren has granted me,” Box said in a statement. “I look forward to being a contributor to this fine program and am elated to be a Hoosier.”
