IU’s Johansen selected as USA Diving head coach

Indiana has another connection to next month’s Rio Olympics.

USA Diving announced Friday that IU diving coach Drew Johansen has been named head coach of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Diving Team. It’s the second time Johansen has led the U.S. team after serving as coach during the 2012 London Olympics.

Johansen will oversee a team of 10 divers, including Hoosiers Jessica Parratto, Amy Cozad and Michael Hixon.

Four years ago, the United States earned one gold, one silver and two bronze medals under Johansen. Those four medals were the most for USA Diving since the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

Parratto and Cozad will compete in the 10-meter synchronized event, and Parratto will also dive in the individual 10-meter event. Hixon will compete in the 3-meter synchro event, along with the individual 3-meter event.
