IUWBB: No. 23 Indiana falls to WKU, 85-74

Indiana ended up splitting its two-game road swing, losing to Western Kentucky, 85-74 on Saturday.

The Hoosiers (3-1) were led by 23 points and three assists from junior point guard Tyra Buss. But two days after shooting better than 50 percent from the field in a win at Chattanooga, IU hit 41.2 percent of its shots against the Hilltopers (2-1) and only 5-of-20 from 3-point range.

They also turned the ball over 12 times and committed 24 personal fouls. On the other hand, WKU shot 48 percent from the field and made 26-of-28 free throws . Tashia Brown led the Hilltoppers with 28 points.

IU led 35-34 less than a minute into the third quarter, but that was the Hoosiers last lead of the game. The Hoosiers return home Wednesday to play UMass-Lowell.

  1. It is quite obvious that poor shooting lead to this loss along with Western Kentucky hitting 26 out of 28 free throw attempts. Also, IU hitting only 13 of 20 free throw attempts was crucial. One positive for the game for IU was outrebounding Western Kentucky 42-31. Gassion and McBride had a poor shooting night with Alexis going 5 for 14 and Karlee going 1 for 9 from the floor. Only hitting 5 of 20 three point attempts contributed to the loss. These types of game are good for us even if we lose. It certainly helps us to play tough road games which will benefit us for the conference. We now have to reset for Wednesday night’s home game. Go Hoosiers!!

  2. This kind of loss is only good for the team if they play well and lose , this did not happen. Moren could not be happy with the effort. Someone who wants to be proud of their defense Im sure was quite miserable and hard to live with after this affair. They also had double the turnovers that they had against the Mocs. In listening to the game it sounded as if they got outplayed badly in the fact the lead had ballooned to 15 or more at one time. It was only the late 3 by buss that made it look a little more respectable. Im sure their next practice after the trip back was/will not be a pleasant scene.

  3. Did not listen to game. However, anyway you cut it that is just a bad loss….especially by more than a few points.
