IUWBB: Vanderbilt at No. 23 Indiana

FINAL: Indiana 94, Vandy 61.

END OF THIRD: Indiana 72, Vanderbilt 39. Hoosiers pulling away in the third. Vandy up to 21 fouls, 15 turnovers in the game. That won’t win you one.

5:07 (3Q): Hoosiers start the quarter on a 12-0 run. Vandy has four turnovers this quarter, thus far.

7:36 (3Q): Stephanie White forced to call a timeout after the Hoosiers get a couple baskets. Kym Royster with the post move (she only played one minute in the first half with two fouls), the Amanda Cahill finds Alexis Gassion cutting underneath. It’s 54-38, Hoosiers.

HALFTIME: Indiana 50, Vanderbilt 38. IU took advantage of Vanderbilt fouls and hit 15-of-19 from the line. Commodores also turned the ball over nine times to the Hoosiers’ four.

Alexis Gassion leads all scorers with 14 points. Amanda Cahll has nine. Tyra Buss with seven — she needed three to hit 1,000 points. She is the fastest in program history to reach that mark.

5:00 (2Q): Vanderbilt fouling early and often. Amanda Cahill hacked on a 3, and that’s 17 for the Commodores. Cahill makes 2-of-3 and it’s 35-29, Hoosiers.

END OF FIRST: Indiana 23, Vandy 15

Exciting end to the first quarter, with Tia Elbert taking a Vandy turnover to just inside midcourt and banks home a 3. Hoosiers hit 9-of-11 free throws, with Vandy already past seven fouls.

(sorry, technical difficulties with the blog in the first quarter)

IU will roll with the same lineup as the Presbyterian game: Gs Tyra Buss, Ria Gulley, Alexis Gassion and Fs Amanda Cahill, Kym Royster.

Back at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall for today’s contest between Vanderbilt and Indiana. Both teams are coming off season-opening victories. Vandy is led by former Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White, who IU’s Teri Moren actually coached on the AAU circuit as a 14 year old.

  1. WOW! IU women soundly beat the Vandy women! At one point in the past the Vandy Women were perennial top 10, NCAA performers. Now IU women are making their claim to that lofty status! GO IU! GO Coach Terri Moren!

  2. Damn…The lady Hoosiers look like the Knight-coached men’s teams of years past. This sounds like the beginnings of a dynasty. Possibly a real sleeper squad(like Knight’s ’73 team) that may contend for NCAA Final Four spots. Move over UConn!
I’ll have to watch their next game…Good for them.
