IUWBB: Indiana adds ’18 guard Chanel Wilson

Indiana picked up its second 2018 commit Thursday night with Georgia’s Chanel Wilson.

Wilson, a 5-foot-7 guard from Powder Springs, Ga., averaged 12.9 points, 5.0 assists and 2.1 steals per game in 24 games as a junior for McEachern High School. She tore her ACL in January, but her team went on to win a fourth straight state championship.

Wilson was on campus this past October for Hoosier Hysteria. Along with Louisville’s Grace Berger, the Hoosiers now have two guards as part of its 2018 class. IU has room to add as many as six players in ’18, but it’s more realistic to think this class will have four or five players.

Wilson adds a guard with a willingness to shoot the 3. She went 59-of-160, or 37 percent, from beyond the arc as a junior. She may be somewhat under the radar playing alongside Quanniecia Morrison, a five-star guard headed to Georgia in the fall.

  1. Another very athletic guard added to the IU roster for 2018. One of the things that coach Moren and her staff have addressed over the last 2 years is adding more athleticism to our team which has been a weakness over the years. Most of the teams in our conference have been much more athletic than we have and now we are slowly catching up. Another thing to keep an eye on the next few days is the possible addition of Pittsburg transfer Brenna Wise. She is a 6′ 0″ forward who was their leading scorer and rebounder last yea as a sophomore. She is apparently down to IU, Michigan, Ohio St. and Dayton. It has been suggested that she may verbally commit in the next couple of days. It has been reported that Ohio St. may have the edge. We will see? Go Hoosiers!!

  2. At present, unless IU ladies add a high 4 star or 5 star 6’4″or taller senior to play center…Besides the obvious players like A.C…I would like the inside game (whether 3 forwards or a center and 2 forwards) handled by committee of shared playing time L.D., DF.,and K.R.

    1. I agree with t somewhat. I would have liked to see Darby be more aggressive on offence and I think it was part of being a freshman. I also think Kym is more a forward than a center where she played almost exclusively last year. Hopefully Linsey and can alleviate this with she a Darby sharing the Center position. It would also be great if D.W. could play this season some. If nothing else she is a big body to absorb a little playing time. She was supposed to have had leg issues last season.
