Fant nominated for Allstate AFCA Good Works Team

Rashard Fant has emerged as a leader on and off the field for Indiana in recent seasons.

That’s enough to make him a candidate for the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

Fant, a senior cornerback, is one of 146 nominees for this year’s Good Works Team, which recognizes college football players who are committed to serving their communities.

During his time at Indiana, Fant has served as a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative for the Big Ten and has also worked as a Hoosier HEROES peer mentor, providing guidance to incoming freshman athletes. Last fall, Fant was admitted to the Master of Public Affairs degree program at Indiana’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs.

Fant is one of 10 Big Ten players to earn Good Works Team nominations, joining Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett, Northwestern’s Justin Jackson, Wisconsin’s Derrick Tindal, Illinois’ Nick Allegretti, Nebraska’s Chris Weber, Penn State’s Brandon Smith, Maryland’s Adam Greene, Minnesota’s Eric Carter and Rutgers’ Sebastian Joseph.

A final roster of 22 award recipients will be announced in September.

  1. That is outstanding. Congratulations to Rashad for this recognition. This young man is making the most out of his college experience and helping a variety of others in the process. I just hope he’s eating his share of those rolls or biscuits that he’s serving so he’ll get a little bigger and stay healthy for the 2017 season. If he does, he has a chance to get drafted next spring and play at the next level.

  2. Fant-astic news indeed. It is good to see IU football players recognized for the work they do off the field. Fant has done a number of things to help the community and it is good to see him recognized.
