Notebook: Walsh hired as IU’s director of basketball operations

Archie Miller added to his basketball staff recently, announcing Tuesday that he has hired Brian Walsh as Indiana’s director of basketball operations.

Walsh previously worked for Miller at Dayton, where he spent two years as a graduate assistant and one final season as the Flyers’ assistant director of basketball operations.

“Brian has a great mind for the game and was an invaluable member of our staff the past three years,” Miller said in a statement. “He had a great rapport with our players and a tremendous understanding of the game. His unique talents in so many areas will be a great asset to our program.”

Walsh’s duties at Dayton included administrative duties, academic services and assisting with player housing, recruiting services, team meals and community service.

“I’m grateful to have the opportunity to become a part of Hoosier Nation,” Walsh said in a statement. “It’s an honor to be able to join Coach Miller and his staff. I’m really looking forward to taking the next step in my professional career and I could not ask for a better opportunity than what will be available to me by working alongside such a talented and respected group.”

Newcomers select numbers
The four newcomers to IU’s roster now have jersey numbers.

Of IU’s three freshmen, Al Durham will wear No. 1, Justin Smith will wear No. 3 and Clifton Moore will wear No. 22. Walk-on guard Vijay Blackmon, the brother of former Hoosier James Blackmon Jr., will wear No. 24.

Fellow walk-on Quentin Taylor has switched from No. 22 to No. 5.
