Allen recognizes top performers from Ohio State game

Tom Allen wasn’t happy with the result of Thursday’s 49-21 loss to Ohio State.

But the IU coach was at least pleased with a few individual performances.

Allen recognized Simmie Cobbs as Indiana’s offensive player of the week after the redshirt junior receiver made a personal-high 11 catches for 149 yards and a touchdown.

“He still has things to work on. He knows that,” Allen said. “But he did make some plays and played well.”

Senior linebacker Tegray Scales picked up IU’s defensive player of the week honors after making a game-high 12 tackles.

“He was as disappointed as anybody in our performance,” Allen said. “So he took it personal and that’s what we want.”

Allen was also encouraged by what he saw from Chase Dutra, IU’s special teams performer of the week.

“His role on special teams is huge for us,” Allen said, “and his energy and his focus and his execution was what it needs to be.”

Redshirt freshman walk-on linebacker Andrew Stamm, freshman cornerback LaDamion Hunt, freshman quarterback Nick Tronti and redshirt sophomore Isaac James received weekly scout team honors.

“I thought the attitude was tremendous and effort was great by those guys,” Allen said.
